Pep Guardiola enforces media silence on Barcelona staff ahead of Tuesday's El Clasico clash

http://nainwong-healthandsports.blogspot.com/

Following the controversy surrounding Barcelona's Champions League clash with Real Madrid last week, coach Pep Guardiola has enforced a media blackout on his players and staff.

UEFA are planning to take action against the El Clasico clubs following their semi-final first leg, and they are due to  again in the second leg at the Camp Nou on Tuesday night.

It has been reported in Marca that the ex-defensive midfielder Guardiola has imposed a code of silence on the Blaugrana staff and banned appearances in front of the media in order to prevent any further sanctions or damming reports ahead of El Clasico number five of the season.

This approach has been adopted by the Catalan coach on previous occasions, namely after the side's trip to take on Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine in the previous round of the competition.

Guardiola himself appeared in front of the media before the club's La Liga tie with Real Sociedad this weekend, but, as has been reported on Goal.com, was reluctant to discuss the Madrid tie.

Mourinho calls on Madrid to find will to win

José Mourinho has been quoting Albert Einstein to inspire his players, a tactic that may be working as Josep Guardiola prepares FC Barcelona to meet a side "in their form of the season"
Jose Mourinho

A week on from guiding Real Madrid CF to Copa del Rey glory against FC Barcelona, José Mourinho is anticipating a "different game" when the arch-rivals contest the first leg of a much-anticipated all-Spanish UEFA Champions League semi-final. Though his team won that most recent meeting 1-0 thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo's header, the Madrid coach says "my opinion is that there are no favourites" for the tie. Opposite number Josep Guardiola, meanwhile, fears the hosts are in their best form of the season.
José Mourinho, Madrid coachI don't know how Barcelona are feeling at the moment, I only know how we are. We would have been in the same state of mind even if we had lost the Copa del Rey, although it was obviously fantastic to win it. The day after that we were all relaxed and focused again, ready for our next Liga match.
Before coming here today I told someone I am the same coach that lost 5-0 to Barcelona a few months ago. I haven't changed. I don't possess a magic potion to beat them; I only know that it takes hard work. Since that defeat we played a great game against them in the Liga and drew 1-1. We then won 1-0 in the Copa del Rey final [after extra time] but this is a different game and anything can happen.
My opinion is that there are no favourites in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. We are two rivals who know each other well; two rivals with a lot of history between us. We both have players who know how to play in important games and who have had success.
I am a normal motivator. Like anyone, I have to motivate myself first.
I told my players before the final of the Copa del Rey that there was someone called Albert, Albert Einstein, who said that there is a force more powerful than steam, electricity and atomic energy: will. And this guy Albert was not stupid.
If we play well, create great chances, are the better team and finish with a draw then obviously I will be happy. If they do all of those things and we draw then I'll be happy, too.
Josep Guardiola, Barcelona coachTomorrow at 20.45 we will go out there looking to win. I congratulate Real Madrid for their victory in the Copa del Rey, which they won deservedly. Andrés Iniesta is out of the game but we hope he will be back for the return. My players know there are no excuses here. If we win it's because we are better; we will defend that idea until the end.
We are facing a team who are in their form of the season. We are in a UEFA Champions League semi-final and for us it's a big task facing Real Madrid, one of the best teams in Europe. It's a great challenge as we are just one step away from Wembley. We will look to do the best we can. We have come here to try to beat a team that has won nine European Cups.
I'm hugely satisfied to be at this stage of the competition, it's a success. If you come here to defend they will roll over you because the pitch is very wide and they have very good players. We will compete as we know how and with what we have.
Team news• Madrid
Sami Khedira misses out with a right adductor tear. Lassana Diarra, who returned from a hip complaint at the weekend, may well be the man to provide cover in defensive midfield. Emmanuel Adebayor (groin) and Ángel Dí María (bruised right knee) have also shaken off knocks and make the final cut. Fernando Gago remains absent with a torn adductor.
• Barcelona
Barça are also without a key midfield player after Guardiola confirmed that Iniesta's calf injury will prevent him from playing. Maxwell also misses out, though Carles Puyol trained in the capital after overcoming knee and hamstring problems and will captain the side. Gabriel Milito (right calf) had to be withdrawn midway through the second half at the weekend but trained on the eve of this game, while Adriano will be out for a month having torn a muscle in his right thigh in the Copa del Rey final.
Weekend results
Saturday: Valencia CF 3-6 Madrid(Soldado 60, Jonas 80, Alba 85; Benzema 23, Higuaín 31 42 53, Kaká 39 62)
Madrid scored six or more goals for the fifth time this season, although the other four all came at the Santiago Bernabéu: RC Deportivo la Coruña and Real Racing Club were both beaten 6-1 in October while Málaga CF lost 7-0 in Madrid on 3 March. UD Levante were defeated 8-0 in the Copa del Rey on 22 December.
Saturday: Barcelona 2-0 CA Osasuna
(Villa 24, Messi 87)
Before opening the scoring on Saturday, David Villa had not scored in 11 games for Barcelona, though he did hit two for Spain against the Czech Republic on 25 March. Lionel Messi has scored 53 goals in 55 games for club and country this season; his goal against Osasuna was his 50th for Barcelona in 2010/11.
Did you know?Madrid have got the better of Barcelona twice before at this stage of the competition en route to lifting the European Champion Clubs' Cup, in 1960 and 2002

Cool Van der Sar savours final straight

Chelsea vs Schalke 04 in a Champion League 26/04/2011

Edwin van der Sar aims to thwart an old adversary in Raúl González on Tuesday as Manchester United FC's phlegmatic Dutch keeper bids to write a glorious final chapter of his sporting life.

Sir Alex Ferguson jokingly replied "I don't know" in his best German when asked by a local journalist about his reported interest in signing FC Schalke 04 goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, yet behind the smiles lay a more serious question: namely, how the Scot will replace Edwin van der Sar this summer?
Manchester United FC's UEFA Champions League challenge this term has been founded on a strong defence with the Premier League leaders yet to concede on their travels and Van der Sar, as assured as ever at the age of 40, has been key to that effort.
The Dutch keeper, who will retire at the season's end, belied his years once more on Saturday during United's 1-0 home win against Everton FC, pulling off a fingertip save to deny visiting midfielder Jack Rodwell with the game goalless. That stop helped United secure a success that leaves them on the cusp of another domestic title, one that would mean Van der Sar bowing out with a fourth Premier League winner's medal to add to the same number won with AFC Ajax.
And he might yet end his final season in the UEFA Champions League as he did his first in the competition back in 1994/95 – by holding the club game's most cherished trophy aloft. It is an enticing prospect for Van der Sar but, ahead of his seventh UEFA Champions League semi-final, he showed a down-to-earth attitude befitting a native of the Low Countries as he reflected on the final straight of his long sporting journey.
Playing down the suggestion he might be tempted to reconsider his decision to retire, he said: "I don't know, I am just enjoying it. It is always nice when you are involved in a winning team, and that's what we've done a lot lately. Hopefully we can keep on doing that these last couple of game we have to play this season. I've had a reasonable career so far and let's hope we can finish if off nicely."
Saying Van der Sar, United's 2008 final shoot-out hero, has had a "reasonable career" is like suggesting Raúl González is a half-decent striker and the meeting of these two golden oldies – greats of the modern UEFA Champions League era – could provide an intriguing subplot to tomorrow's action.
Raúl González has scored 71 UEFA Champions League goals, but he has never put the ball past Van der Sar in the competition. The pair met back in autumn 1995 when the keeper kept a pair of clean sheets for Ajax in two group stage victories against the Real Madrid CF of an 18-year-old Raúl.
Sixteen years on, the pair will face off again and Van der Sar hailed his contemporary when he warned United's defenders would have to be at their vigilant best to contain the threat of the 33-year-old, whose five goals have helped propel Schalke to their first semi-final.
"What I think about Raúl is he's quite an amazing player of course," said Van der Sar, who has 53 UEFA Champions League shut-outs to his name. "He played so many years at Real Madrid at a high level and he scored all those goals in the league for them and of course is the top scorer in the Champions League. He is not someone you can take your eye off because he is so dangerous and only needs a little chance to score a goal, our defence will have to be on their toes when they play against him."

All Weight Loss Drugs Have Risks

There are many weight loss drugs that are sold in the market. But according to research by scientists, there is no single drug that are really safe because almost all of them have risks.
For centuries scientists had tried to discover anti-obesity drugs, but still fails. Until today, drugs have not became an effective answer to the problem of being overweight or obese, despite the reality that billions of dollars have been spent on researches.
Based on a research, it is known that obesity is not just a factor of too much eating but have various causes. Because of that, it is not possible that one drug can overcome the factors.
“We have no miracle drug for obesity, we may have to use a ‘bomb’ which is very comprehensive,” said Dr. Gene-Jack Wang, head of medical research at Brookhaven National Laboratory, according to CNN.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sidney Wolfe, director of the Health Research Group said she did not expect there will be  a weight loss drug that is effective and safe. Because according to her the possibility to obtain drug without a a lot of side effects to the body is zero.
Some examples of weight loss drugs which are known to have side effects are:
- Prescription drugs by speeding up metabolism can lead to stroke, heart attack and cardiovascular problems.
- Drugs that functions to block the body from absorbing fat can cause unpleasant side effects like diarrhea.
- Drugs which works by suppressing the appetite to have adverse effects such as the influence of psychotic, depressive and suicidal thoughts.
“People with excess body weight have an increased risk of heart disease and stroke risk. When added with drugs, it becomes more unreasonable,” said Dr. Wolfe.
It is hard to get weight loss drug that is really effective and have no side effects because weight gain could be caused by emotional, biological, social, psychological and environmental factors. So it is not possible that those many factors are treated by a capsule.
Besides that there are many pathways in the brain which are associated with appetite, making it difficult to create a drug that can suppress appetite if the factors involved in this instinct is not known.
“Nowadays eating too much has been equated with drug addiction. The point is that there is no magic to resolve the issue,” said Dr. Patricia Powell, aisten professor of clinical pharmacy at the University of South Carolina.

Soccer History And Information

Have you ever wonder how soccer / football games get into our life? When and where is the origin of this game from? Why is it so many peoples in the world crazy about this game? Almost every culture has reference to the history of soccer.
The origin of football / soccer can be found in every corner of geography and history. The ChineSoccer Historyse, Japanese, Italian, Ancient Greek, Persian, Viking, and many more played a ball game long before our era. The Chinese played "football"  games date as far back as 3000 years ago. The Ancient Greeks and the Roman used football  games to sharpen warriors for battle. In south and Central America a game called "Tlatchi" once flourished.
But it was in England that soccer / football really begin to take shape. It all started in 1863 in England, when two football association (association football and rugby football) split off on their different course. Therefore, the first Football Association was founded in England.
On October 1963, eleven London clubs and schools sent their representatives to the Freemason's Tavern. These representatives were intent on clarifying the muddle by establishing a set of fundamental rules, acceptSoccer History - Rugbyable to all parties, to govern the matches played amongst them. This meeting marked the birth of The Football Association. The eternal dispute concerning shin-kicking, tripping and carrying the ball was discussed thoroughly at this and consecutive meetings until eventually on 8 December the die-hard exponents of the Rugby style took their final leave. They were in the minority anyway. They wanted no part in a game that forbade tripping, shin-kicking and carrying the ball. A stage had been reached where the ideals were no longer compatible. On 8 December 1863, football and rugby finally split. Their separation became totally irreconcilable six years hence when a provision was included in the football rules forbidding any handling of the ball (not only carrying it). soccer history - Football Association
Only eight years after its foundation, The Football Association already had 50 member clubs. The first football competition in the world was started in the same year - the FA Cup, which preceded the League Championship by 17 years.
International matches were being staged in Great Britain before football had hardly been heard of in Europe. The first was played in 1872 and was contested by England and Scotland. This sudden boom of organized football accompanied by staggering crowds of spectators brought with it certain problems with which other countries were not confronted until much later on. Professionalism was one of them. The first moves in this direction came in 1879, when Darwin, a small Lancashire club, twice managed to draw against the supposedly invincible Old Etonians in the FA Cup, before the famous team of London amateurs finally scraped through to win at the third attempt. Two Darwin players, the Scots John Love and Fergus Suter, are reported as being the first players ever to receive remuneration for their football talent. This practice grew rapidly and the Football Association found itself obliged to legalise professionalism as early as 1885. This development predated the formation of any national association outside of Great Britain (namely, in the Netherlands and Denmark) by exactly four years.
After the English Football Association, the next oldest are the Scottish FA (1873), the FA of Wales (1875) and the Irish FA (1880). Strictly speaking, at the time of the first international match, England had no other partner association against which to play. When Scotland played England in Glasgow on 30 November 1872, the Scottish FA did not even exist - it was not founded for another three months. The team England played that day was actually the oldest Scottish club team, Queen's Park.
The spread of football outside of England, mainly due to the British influence abroad, started slow, but it soon gathered momentum and spread rapidly to all parts of the world. The next countries to form football associations after the Netherlands and Denmark in 1889 were New Zealand (1891), Argentina (1893), Chile (1895), Switzerland, Belgium (1895), Italy (1898), Germany, Uruguay (both in 1900), Hungary (1901) and Finland (1907). When FIFA was founded in Paris in May 1904 it had seven founder members: France, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain (represented by the Madrid FC), Sweden and Switzerland. The German Football Federation cabled its intention to join on the same day.
soccer History - FIFA
This international football community grew steadily, although it sometimes met with obstacles and setbacks. In 1912, 21 national associations were already affiliated to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). By 1925, the number had increased to 36, in 1930 - the year of the first World Cup - it was 41, in 1938, 51 and in 1950, after the interval caused by the Second World War, the number had reached 73. At present, after the 2000 Ordinary FIFA Congress, FIFA has 204 members in every part of the world

X Ray Technician Degree and Certification

An X ray technician is someone who specializes in taking x rays. X ray technicians have a very important job because the pictures that they take are commonly used by physicians for diagnosing illnesses and injuries. This is an exciting field that is growing in popularity and there is expected to be many job opportunities that come along with it. However, this career is not for everyone. It takes a special type of person with friendly and outgoing personality to succeed as an x ray technician. The person must also receive the proper training and education. There are three different paths that a person can take to get the training needed to be a X ray technician.
X Ray TechnicianA person can get a certificate from a one year acclerated program. There is also the option of getting an associates degree or a bachelor’s degree. Those who have bachelor’s degrees have more responsibilities and can even take on supervisory roles. No matter what the path is that someone decides to take, he or she will be expected to have a strong grasp of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and radiology. After a person has gotten the training and education that he or she needs, the next step is to get certified. While certifications vary from state to state, all of them require a person to pass the exam that is administered by American Registry of Radiology Technologists.
After a person gets his or her certification, he or she will be prepared for the exciting career that awaits him or her. Over the next five years, this field is expected to grow by 15%. Most X ray technicians are employed by hospitals, but some may work in clinics or doctor’s offices. Generally speaking, the more education the technician has, the more money he or she can expect to earn. According to Payscale, Inc, x ray techs make anywhere from $14.00 to $22 per hour. That would make a salary of about $50,000 a year. While the pay is great, people who are looking into pursuing this is a career should not do it solely for the salary. They should also do it because they have a passion for people and want to help them.

Folic Acid Supplements Reduce Stroke Risk

Based on the results of a meta-analysis study, it is known that folic acid supplements can reduce stroke risk by 18% - 25%. However, the benefits for other cardiovascular conditions is not known clearly.
Stroke risk reduction is emerging from a meta-analysis of eight randomized trials that looked at folic acid supplementation, with or without other B vitamins. The study was conducted by scientists from Northwestern University, and the results reported in the journal The Lancet edition June 2, 2007.
In a multilevel analysis of trials that included 16,841 men and women, researchers divided the group into:
Sub group receiving folic acid supplements for more than 3 years
Sub groups have levels of homocysteine decreased by 20% or more
Sub-groups living in areas without folic acid fortification
The study determined that patients with various diseases often suffer from deficiency of folic acid, other B vitamins (like vitamin B6 and vitamin B12), as well as omega-3 fatty acids (particularly DHA).
The eight trials that included patients with initial conditions, ie one trial with a history of stroke and seven others with coronary heart disease and end stage renal disease or esophageal dysplasia. Decreased risk of stroke as a whole is as much as 18%. In addition, the risk of stroke 25% lower on 7 trial that there was no history of stroke.
Although it has been shown that folic acid supplements can reduce the risk of stroke, debate continues whether folic acid can improve the cardiovascular outcome of the final assessment. Some studies found opposite results, while epidemiological studies support the proposal that the risk factors and different strength of the relationship between stroke and cardiovascular disease. The researchers speculate that, although the reason for the difference are not entirely understood, they are referring to the fact that stroke is associated with pathology in the small blood vessels, whereas cardiovascular disease tends to involve large blood vessels.
The next clinical trial is expected to be carried out in areas without fortification, and among individuals without a history of stroke to test the effectiveness and causal association between folic acid supplementation on stroke.

Madrid and Barcelona kick off Clásico jousts

The opening whistle of Saturday's Liga game between Real Madrid CF and FC Barcelona will herald a mouthwatering quartet of matches between the Spanish giants. With the prize of a UEFA Champions League final place for the team still standing in three weeks' time, these encounters will enrich their fabled rivalry.
Real Madrid's 1-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur FC on Wednesday confirmed their progress to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals and a double date with Barcelona on 27 April and 3 May; their old friends had completed their own comfortable handling of FC Shakhtar Donetsk the night before. The prospect of the duo meeting in Europe inevitably brings added resonance to their upcoming domestic tussles, with José Mourinho's men hoping to trim Barça's eight-point Liga lead at the Santiago Bernabéu this weekend, ahead of their Copa del Rey final contest in Valencia on Wednesday.
'A game like no other'
One man familiar with the adrenaline rush both sets of players will experience is Steve McManaman. The former Madrid winger describes the fixture as "a game like no other". Never on the losing side in seven matches against Barcelona between 1999 and 2003, the ex-England international also scored in Madrid's 3-1 aggregate success over the Azulgrana in the 2001/02 UEFA Champions League semi-finals, en route to the second of his two European titles with the club.
"El Clásico is like nothing else because of the history and the tradition," he told UEFA.com. "I must admit I loved those games. If you get the right result, you enjoy everything about it. If you lose, though, it's an absolute disaster. When we played nine years ago, it was coupled with being a Champions League eliminator, so it was an incredible scenario."
It was also a familiar scenario for older Madrid fans, who had seen Madrid beat their arch-rivals from Catalonia at the same stage of the European Champion Clubs' Cup in 1959/60, as they marched towards a fifth consecutive triumph in the competition. Barça exacted revenge in the first round the following season when they became the first side to knock the holders out, but it was McManaman and Co who then ensured the weight of history will be behind the capital club when they resume their continental rivalry later this month.
"Looking back, we probably had better world-class individual players at that time, who could strike at any moment and turn a game," explained the 39-year-old. "We also had very good team spirit. Having said that, I think this current Madrid side is a really good one, even if their results in the past five or six years perhaps haven't been the best."
